Demographics and History

Doylestown Township has a population of over 17,000 people and is located just outside the Philadelphia metro area. It was first settled by William Doyle in 1745, and Doylestown Borough (a smaller entity within the township) became the seat of government for Bucks County in 1813. Doylestown Township encompasses part or all of several communities, including Doylestown, New Britain, and Chalfont.

Economics

Doylestown Township was once largely agricultural; 51% of it was designated as cropland as late as 1961. Today is mostly serves as a suburb of Philadelphia, with many residents living here for the relative safety and quiet but commuting to jobs in the city. In recent years the downtown area has undergone a renovation and beautification project, attracting visitors and new local businesses alike. Home values in the area are generally higher than the state average, and unemployment is considerably lower.

Sports and Recreation

Doylestown residents have access to an excellent system of local parks, playgrounds, and recreational programs, and to Evansburg State Park, Ralph Stover State Park, and Nockamixon State Park as well. For professional sports entertainment, Philadelphia is less than an hour away and offers the NFL?s Philadelphia Eagles, the NHL?s Philadelphia Flyers, and the NBA?s Philadelphia 76ers.
