Demographics and History

Home to just over 16,000 people, Lansdale is located in Montgomery County about 30 miles north of downtown Philadelphia. It was just a small village until the North Pennsylvania Railroad was established, which brought an influx of commerce and population. The town was incorporated in the summer of 1872, and since the trains were so important to the growing community they named their town after Railroad Engineer Phillip Lansdale Fox.

Economics

Lansdale grew to local prominence on railroad commerce, but today it largely serves as a suburb of Philadelphia; many residents live here for the relative safety and quiet but commute to jobs in and around the city. Local businesses ? light industry and retail shopping, mostly ? contribute to the economy as well. Average income levels tend to be above the national average.

Sports and Recreation

Lansdale residents have access to an excellent system of local parks and playgrounds.
