Demographics and History

Coatesville, home to over 11,000 people, was first settled in 1714 and joined with the village of Midway to form a borough in 1867. It remained a sparsely-settled rural area until the completion of the Philadelphia to Lancaster Turnpike (now U.S. Route 30) brought in traffic and commerce. Today Coatesville is an incorporated city ? the only one in Chester County.

Economics

Like many towns in this part of Pennsylvania, the iron and steel industries were once very important to Coatesville.
