Demographics

More than 1.6 million people live, work, and play in the Las Vegas metropolitan area, commonly known as Las Vegas Valley. Encompassing all of Clark County, it covers 600 square miles of an arid basin in southern Nevada, the valley boasts mountain vistas in every direction. It is bounded by the Spring Mountains to the west, the Sheep Mountains to the north, the Muddy Mountains, and Lake Meade, and Eldorado Range to the east. Nestled in the Mojave Desert, Greater Las Vegas is one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. Home of the ?Entertainment Capital of the World,? it is not surprising that the valley is the most populous area in Nevada. Although tourism, gaming, and entertainment are still key to its economy, the area has experienced a population boom since the 1990?s that has prompted unprecedented job creation and construction of new homes. Its growing manufacturing, industrial, and service sectors are contributing to what is becoming a diverse economic base.

Dining and Entertainment

The heart of this metropolitan area is a neon city where the nightlife never ends. Glittering Las Vegas draws nearly 35 million visitors every year to its renowned casinos and resorts. Visitors and locals alike will find much to do in this popular area, from gambling on the Strip to catching a Celine Dion show to worshipping the sun surrounded by waterfalls and lush foliage at the Mirage?s spectacular outdoor pool area. Places to see include the over-the-top Liberace Museum, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, and the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. Las Vegas also hosts COMDEX, one of the largest computer trades shows in the world, the National Finals Rodeo and the Las Vegas Invitational Golf Tournament. Enjoying Indoor casino shows, watching world-famous entertainers perform, seeing laser cannon displays or pirate duels on artificial lakes ? there?s always something fun to do in Las Vegas. Once known for its all-you-can-eat buffets, Greater Las Vegas now offers an array of eateries from casual to fine dining to international cuisine and everything in between. Today, its all-you-can-eat buffets are legendary and feature dozens of items including succulent seafood, savory meats, and mouthwatering ethnic dishes.

Recreation and Sports

Although Las Vegas hopes to one day have a professional sports team to call its own, there is no lack of recreational or sports activities in the area. Hiking biking, golfing, rock climbing, skiing, water sports and more ? it?s all here in this metro area. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, Urban Mountain Bike Trail, Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire State Park, Lake Mead National Park, Mount Charleston, and many beautiful smaller parks offer a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities and sightseeing opportunities. . Sports teams that call Las Vegas home include The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Field Division I athletic teams, the Las Vegas Gladiators in the Arena Football League, the Las Vegas 51s baseball franchise in the Triple A Pacific Coast League, and the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL hockey league.
