Demographics
The city of Saint Cloud, incorporated in 1856, is the seat of Stearns County and has a population of nearly 62,000 residents. This city is nestled on the shores of the Mississippi River and is located 61 miles northwest of the Twin Cities. Nicknamed the Granite City, beautifully colored granite deposits were found here in 1868.

Recreation and Sports
Quarry Park features 21 abandoned quarries and is now the site of a refreshing swimming area. The park provides hiking and nature trails, four miles of lighted cross-country ski trails, scuba diving, and fishing for trout and bass.

Riverside Park was the site of the 1999 National Frisbee Golf Championships and offers Saint Cloud residents delightful flower gardens, a wading pool, tennis courts, and lighted cross-country ski trails. Lake Wobegon Regional Trail offers opportunities to hike, bike, roller blade, and snowmobile.

Sand Prairie Wildlife Management is 700 acres of incredible prairies, wetlands, and woodlands perfect for hiking and cross-country skiing. This is a no-hunting area and, as a result, sightings of white-tailed deer, grouse, mink, waterfowl, and songbirds are often.

Popular Lake Wobegon Regional Trail is an abandoned railroad trail that Saint Cloud residents converted to a 46-mile, ten-foot wide pedestrian trail. This trail opened in 1998 and is the perfect place to hike, bike, snowmobile, and rollerblade. Passing through seven small, charming towns, trail users make weekend trips on this regional trail.

Education
The Saint Cloud Area School District 742 consists of eighteen schools: one preschool, eight elementary, two middle, two high, three alternative, and two schools for grades seven and eight only. The District offers health care internships, career and adult education, and technical education along with their regular curriculum.

For post secondary education, Saint John?s University/College of Saint Benedict offers bachelor degrees. This Catholic liberal arts university focuses on Catholic theology and offers 60 areas of study and 40 majors.

State Cloud State University is situated along the Mississippi River and enrolls nearly 15,000 students. The University offers 175 majors with the more popular programs of study in business, education, fine arts, and humanities.

Art and Culture
Art and cultural diversions are plentiful in Saint Cloud. The beautifully restored Paramount Theater is central Minnesota?s home for the performing and visual arts. This historic landmark offers summer art camps in pottery and drawing, artist studios, and private parties. The theater is home to several resident organizations: Saint Cloud Arts Commission, Saint Cloud Symphony Orchestra, and the Cello Studio.

Clemens Gardens is fashioned after European gardens and feature more than 1,000 rose bushes. Visitors can relax on wrought iron benches and listen to the soothing splash of stately fountains while enjoying the fragrant rose and flower blossoms. Adjacent to Clemens Garden is Munsinger Gardens, nestled along the shore of the Mississippi River. This informal garden dates back to the 1930s and consists of fourteen acres of giant oaks, hemlock, and pine trees.

Dining, Entertainment, and Shopping
Saint Cloud offers many opportunities for food, fashion, and fun. A variety of cuisine is available for the discriminating palate: Mexican, Asian, Italian, and European. From the casual ambiance of a coffee house to the high style of fine dining, Saint Cloud restaurants offer something for everyone. Shopping is a popular pastime as well.
