Lakeville residents benefit from their nearness to the Mall of America. This is the largest entertainment/retail facility in the country. It comprises nearly 78 football fields and 9.5 million square feet. Opened in 1992, this unique destination is the home to the largest, indoor theme/amusement park with over 30 rides on seven acres. For higher education, Metropolitan State University offers bachelor and graduate programs in an urban, public setting. This university is one of Minnesota?s seven state universities. The College of Saint Catherine is the largest and most comprehensive Catholic College for women and offers bachelor and graduate programs with a total enrollment of nearly 5,000 students. The University of Saint Thomas, founded in 1885, is the largest independent university in Minnesota. This Catholic liberal arts college enrolls approximately 10,000 students.
