Horseshoe Dam and Reservoir on the Verde River offers water sports and recreation only 60 miles from Phoenix. The Woolsey Peak Wilderness area has 64,000 acres in southwest Maricopa County. Woolsey Peak rises 3,200 feet above sea level and is a significant geographic landmark in the state.
